*April sessions dedicated to the unique needs of young widowed parents of dependent-aged children (YWP Edition of the Widowed Support Program).
This program is for anyone 21+ grieving the death of a spouse or partner, whether recent or years ago.
This program addresses the unique needs of the widowed community. Since self-care is essential while grieving, this theme is incorporated throughout the program. Psychoeducation is provided about grief, trauma, neuroplasticity, and more. The group format provides an opportunity to share stories, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections with others who understand.
These ten-week sessions offer a comprehensive approach to:
-
initiate the step from survival mode to healing
-
dispel common grief myths
-
educate and empower while providing practical techniques for healthy coping & nervous system regulation
-
explore relevant topics extending to all areas of life affected by widowhood in non-judgmental environment
-
process challenging themes using therapeutic methods and actionable tools including journaling
-
provide understanding social supports and additional resources
...all while balancing tears with laughter.

Recommended by local school districts and mental health professionals across Western New York. Utilizes the grief journal as a guide throughout all ten-weeks.
*YWP EDITION (April): Young widowed parents of dependent-aged children are in a category of their own, and there are very few resources available for this population. They often feel out of place in other groups for spouse/partner loss, as those are mostly comprised of older adults in different stages of life. Their circumstances are painfully isolating, and they experience a multitude of secondary losses which often include their social circles. The isolation can be devastating for them as well as their children, and significantly impacts parenting. In addition to what is provided in the Widowed Support Program, this particular program addresses children's grief at different developmental stages and provides helpful parenting tips. Connecting with other young families in the community expands social supports for these parents as well as their children.
Program is trauma-informed, inclusive, and LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent-affirming.
